Activity not launched in 2021-2022
Every two weeks on Wednesdays (from 6 October 2021), 13h30 – 14h30
1st semester
The aim of the course is to make students aware of the plant world. So that they understand the importance of plants in the functioning of the planet and for mankind, and the need to conserve biodiversity.
The first semester will offer young people the opportunity to discover autumn and winter nature. They will be introduced to the recognition of plants, especially wild ones, and to their classification. When the weather is fine, the group will go out of the classroom to look for plants to examine or to dry. Throughout the year, the pupils will make a herbarium. They will also be introduced to scientific drawing.
One of the highlights of this activity is the guided visits to the botanical garden in Meise, which is located a few kilometres from the school. It is one of the largest plant gardens in the world. The young people will be accompanied and guided by their monitor, who happens to be one of the botanical garden’s certified guides.
2nd semester
The second semester will allow young people to observe nature waking up after winter. Spring is one of the most interesting seasons for botany because it is the return to life, a new cycle that begins.
Two more visits to the botanical garden of Meise will also be organised during this second part of the year.
