Chess club advanced

Want to perfect your chess strategies? This course, dedicated to students who have already followed several years of chess lessons, allows them to sharpen their techniques and strategies in order to play captivating games.

The club is offered during lunch break : We provide a (cold) lunch for pupils enrolled in the canteen (several options will be presented to you before the activity starts). Other children can bring their own cold lunch.

The children reinforce their techniques on the 3 phases of play. First of all at the beginning of a game: they learn the main openings (the Spanish, Italian, Scottish opening, Queen pawn openings, etc.) and other movement strategies. They also improve the middle part of the game, i.e. they know when to ask the right questions at the right time and they master some essential combinations such as the fork, double failure, failure to discover, which can allow them to take the advantage. Finally, they must also finish a game well in order to ensure a victory; they learn how to benefit from advantages, for example on the number of pawns remaining and how to anticipate winning moves.

The complexity of chess problems will increase throughout the year. Experienced pupils are encouraged to analyse the situation, to identify the existing tensions and above all to interpret them, whether in attack or defence, in order to find the best solutions, by being creative and critical, in a timely manner. The time factor is indeed integrated into the games, increasing the difficulty but also making the game more dynamic.
