  • Baba Marta (Баба Марта)

  • Budget Meeting EP - 11/11/14

The APEEE of Brussels I (Uccle) has launched a petition to the European Parliament against budget cuts to the European Schools. There are currently various petitions at the EP about European Schools and the system of European Schools, in particular regarding the question of the legal basis. There are petitions to put the System of European Schools under EU law rather than having it governed by a Convention. This would imply jurisdiction of the ECJ.

There will be a hearing on 11/11/2014 at 5:30 pm in the EP which is public and it would be good to have many parents present at the hearing. The Secretary General Kiivinen and his legal adviser will be present.

  • General Assembly 2014

It's that time of year again. The General Assembly of the APEEE is approaching.

When?  19h00 to 23h00 on Wednesday 10th December 2014. In recent years there has been a tendency for the GA to last until late (or very early am). The CA is doing its best to ensure that the evening will run efficiently. But you might want to bring a picnic...

Where? Salle Polyvalente of the school

What? This is the meeting where the APEEE's accounts are approved, the CA is discharged, a new budget is adopted, a new CA is elected and you,  the parents,  have the opportunity to ask both the Direction of the school and the APEEE questions.  There is also the possibility for parents to present items ("motions") to be included on the agenda for discussion and if appropriate a vote. This has to be done in advance  - e.g. by the 19th November so please contact your class reps now!

Who? All parents can come to the GA. Only class reps can vote. Please make sure that if you cannot attend you give your proxy to another class rep. Class reps should consult their classes on how they should vote and those instructions should be passed on if you give your proxy.

All info is published on the APEEE website

  • Sexuality Education Working Group

The APEEE is closely working together with school on all pedagogical related issues which are discussed in the education councils and in which the APEEE and parents are represented. To deal with important issues concerning the daily life and well-being of our children, the school can set up informal Working Groups in which teachers and parents can discuss opportunities and challenges but also develop concrete projects and solutions to ensure a healthy atmosphere at school. Amongst these issues, sexuality education is regarded as particular sensitive.

It is within this framework that, last year, the school set up a Working Group of teachers representing all levels of Nursery, Primary and Secondary on sexuality education. The objective of the Working Group is to establish a curriculum for sexuality education in EEB IV. Throughout their school life, pupils should acquire age-adapted and coherent knowledge on sexuality through professional teaching. The Working Group takes into account the sensitivity of the issue and the fact that the school can only complement the sexuality education provided by parents. The main subjects of the first three meetings of the Working Groups during the last school year were gathering the different aspects related to sexuality in our society and to get an overview of elements of sexuality education presently spread over different subjects in the different language sections.

Parallel to this work, the school has started to prepare a pilot project on sexuality education for S4 coordinated by the school nurses. Parents will be informed by the school directly on this project. From the outset, a small group of parents under the umbrella of the APEEE is actively following and contributing to the work of the teachers. The working group’s main objective is to ensure communication between the school and the parents about the developments of the curriculum and to represent parents’ views in the Working Group of the school. In close co-operation with the school the parents' group is preparing an information evening with an external speaker to be held in November 2014. This will also be a first occasion to present the Sexuality Working Group to parents. Further information will follow.

The working group is open to all parents who would like to contribute in the establishment of the sexuality education curriculum which will be unique in the European School system. You are of course welcome with questions and remarks which you can send to Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs. Vous devez activer le JavaScript pour la visualiser.

  • Somerfesto

The APEEE would like to take this opportunity on behalf of all the parents to thank the Organising Committee of this year's Somerfesto for yet another spectacular party. Without the efforts of the Committee and of those of you who volunteered on the day, events such as this are not possible.
The Somerfesto Committee is separate to the Board of the APEEE although some parents do both.

Therefore, if any parents have questions about the Somerfesto, the monies raised and/or how they are spent, please contact Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs. Vous devez activer le JavaScript pour la visualiser..
